Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, 2nd April 2011
Captain MS Dhoni's sixer gained India the title of 'World Champions'. All though the captain was out of form but when the nation called for his bat, he batted out the lankans. His confident batting created history by making India the first nation to win the ICC World Cup at home. Gautam Gambhir's 97 helped the country to stand-up to the challenge of Sri Lanka when the top order toppled in front of Milanga.
Yuwie had helped India get quick and important wickets of Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakarra and Thilan Samaraweera. He fielded well and very deservingly clutched the title of 'Man of the Series' while the skipper won 'Man of the Match'. All this was done for the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar whose innings in Mohali had helped India to make a place in the final. Sachin missed his century but won the cup. His team had helped him live his dream.
Champions! |
The entire country went in shock when sachin was caught by the Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara. Lasith Milanga had reduced India to 31-2 by taking two important wickets and sending shockwaves across 121 billion people. But Gambhir, stood calm keeping a partnership with MS Dhoni of 109. Unfortunately, Gambhir was stumped by T Perera. However, the captain led from the front and anchored the team to the win with this lucky mascot 'Yuvraj Singh'.

Euphoria: People Celebrate World Cup Win |
Team India has inspired the youth to live their dreams. Despite of the debacle of the toss, Dhoni and his men marched towards victory. Many people had heard the Sri lankan skipper say 'tails' to be his choice during the first toss. But since he retracted, MS Dhoni showed his sportsmanship and went for another toss. He lost but India won. As it is said in an oscar nominated bollywood movie, 'Sach aur Sahas ho Jiske Man Mein, Ant Mein Jeet Usiki Rahein'; which means that the one who has truth and courage in his heart is the ultimate winner. This win wiped away the tears that 26/11 had given to Mumbai and to India by bringing good memories to cherish.
Long Live Team India, May You Never Let Go Off the World Cup!
